Geoffrey Detrani and Tracy Helgeson.

reception for the artists will be held on Saturday, April 16 from
6 to 8pm. The event is free and open to the public.
Ruth Edwy’s paintings have a life of
their own. Edwy doesn't always have a particular idea or emotion
in mind when beginning to paint, just the strong desire to create.
From the physical gesture, the movement of the brush, the color,
shape and line that begin to come from her hand and body - the
painting begins to emerge as a coherent entity. This technique has
allowed Edwy to flow freely from hard edged geometric abstractions
to soft, expressive works with the feel of landscapes. Her palette
is as varied as her styles of painting. Edwy has been painting for
38 years and has exhibited with the Woodstock Artists Association,
Kleinert Gallery, and Ann Leonard Gallery in Woodstock, as well as
exhibits in Saugerties, Florida, Rhinebeck and New York.
Geoffrey Detrani is a writer and
artist. The central theme of Detrani’s new work is the subjective
perception of place, both physical and existential, and the
relative sense of isolation of the subject from his/her
surroundings. His artwork has been shown at the Bronx Museum of
Art, the Baltimore Contemporary Museum and at the Former World
Trade Center among other venues. His artists books are in the
collection of the MOMA and the Brooklyn Museum of Art. He lives
and works and in New York.
In creating a painting, Tracy Helgeson
sets out to capture an evocative feeling and an essence of the
landscape that she feels a connection to. The spaces and scenes
that she chooses are usually rooted in reality, but she often
alters the composition, color and light to more accurately express
her feelings about how and what she sees. Helgeson also likes to
juxtapose bold colors and simple compositions with very subtle,
delicate layers of color and bits of detail. This is Helgeson’s
first exhibit with Carrie Haddad Gallery.
In our upstairs photography gallery we will be exhibiting new
works by photographer Scott Baldinger.
A magazine editor and writer, Baldinger moved to Hudson from New
York City two years ago for the town's architecural eye candy ,
which inspired the photographs seen in this, his first exhibition.
Carrie Haddad Gallery is open Thursday through Monday from 11-5pm
and by appointment. For more information please call 518.828.1915
