WORKS ON PAPER EXHIBIT AT CARRIE HADDAD GALLERY
ON PAPER, a group show of abstract and figurative work, will open at the Carrie Haddad Gallery on June 12th and run through July 20th, 2003. A reception for the ten artists in the exhibit will take place on Saturday, June 14th from 6-8pm. All are welcome.
Like most group shows, ON PAPER will give viewers a taste of the variety of techniques and mediums used by contemporary artists. Some of the artists paint on paper, some make the paper, others draw, sculpt, or collage with paper. Sevaral of the artists enjoy creating works that enhance the crisp and clean freshness of paper while others in the exhibit tend to make their paper look old and decayed. What they all have in common is their love of working with one of the oldest and most durable materials around; paper.
Local artists include Sarah Berney, Ramon Lascano, Joy Taylor and Robert Cartmell. More distant travelers include Geoffrey Detrani from New York City, Birch Coffey from Connecticut, Jim Balla from Provincetown, Catherine Gallimard from Paris, and Tjibbe Hooghiemstra from Holland. Also included in the exhibit are some rare woodcuts from the 30’s and 40’s by African American artists
